Wyatt's Furniture.

We purchased Wyatt's furniture this weekend.  After looking at a few local stores, we ended buying the same furniture we found at the local store at Buy Buy Baby for about $400 cheaper including delivery and setup.  {The local store did not offer either and couldn't match price.}  FYI at Buy Buy Baby, if you sign up for the mailing list online, they will send you a 20% off coupon to your email.  I literally signed myself and my entire family up and printed off the coupons, and they let us use a coupon per item to get 20% each item which was a pretty big saving in the long run!  We still have two coupons left over that we will use on our stroller etc.  I LOVE Buy Buy Baby and I'm so glad we finally got one.  I wish it had been around when I had Kennedy!

The furniture is by Bonavita, and we chose the dark brown espresso color.  We really liked this style because it's very simple, yet sturdy, and after looking at several different options, we preferred the straight, clean lines.

The toddler bed.  We actually didn't purchase the toddler rail.  It was a total waste with Kennedy, so I figured if he sleeps in it as a toddler bed, I'd just buy a cheap stick under the mattress rail to get the job done.

The big boy full size bed that he will grow into.

I hope the fabric comes in this week so we can start finding a paint color, window treatments, getting all the bedding ordered, etc. =)

17 weeks & other rambles!

Before I get into all the pregnancy jibberish, I wanted to show you a few pictures of my sweet baby girl!

After church!

My heart melts.  I love her so much!

Kennedy had a very hard day today.  We got paged from church to come and get her where she was hysterically sobbing, but no one saw what happened {she got hit, pushed, toy taken away?}  Anyways, she could not be consoled, and when I got there she looked at me through tears and gasping hiccups, "Peeze momma we go home!"  Bless her heart.  She's never been that upset before, and we have never been paged!  She was fine ever since, so who knows!?  My poor traumatized baby. I hate seeing her so upset like that.  Hopefully it's not a phase we are approaching, but just a bad day!

Okay, so now for the pregnancy stuff!  {sorry I have skipped a couple weeks.}

Pregnancy Highlights:
How Far Along: 17  Weeks
Size of baby: Baby is about the size of an onion or turnip.
Total Weight Gain/Loss: Last appointment was -3 but I go to the doctor again tomorrow.
Maternity Clothes: Not Yet.  Everything still fits the same so far with the exception of a few things getting tighter.
Gender: BOY!
Movement: Lots of flutters and rolling movements when he turns over.  =)
What I miss: a day where I don't gag or vomit.
Cravings: cherries, eggs, meat, anything SALTY! I rejoiced when the first batch of cherries debuted in my grocery.  I am about 20 away from eating the entire bag!
Symptons: mostly just some nausea and vomiting and headaches.  true story:  I threw up on myself in the car while driving!  UGH!  In my defense, I was in the fast lane in high moving traffic.  I have learned to keep a bucket/trash bag with me from now on!  Whoever said you don't get sick when you are pregnant with a boy is a liar! HA!

Ignore my heinous self in these photos.  Just trying to document my growing Wyatt bump!

Okay, I better go help Dave organize the garage and quit taking creepy mirrored photographs of myself like a crazy person!

I hope everyone has had a great weekend!  I'm looking forward to a visit from my mom and a doctor's appointment tomorrow!

p.s. My friend, Christie, from My Xtra Perfect World, is trying to sell the dress I wore for Derby in a size 8 BRAND NEW!  She found out she is having twins and the two cribs, etc. etc. etc. that she will be buying trumps her Lilly dress.  If anyone is interested contact her through her blog.  She is going to do a post featuring the dress with pictures soon!

Nursery Inspiration for a Wyatt.

I have had such a difficult time finding something I LOVE for Wyatt's nursery as far as bedding goes.  I decided against a theme because I was afraid I would get tired of that.  I'm sticking with simple boy colors and expresso colored furniture.  I finally found some bedding that I really love!  YAY!

See the polyvore I have created below!

I'm waiting on the fabric swatches to arrive to confirm my liking before we order. We are going Saturday to order his furniture AND Kennedy is also getting a big girl room redo! More to come later!

Hosting for a Spring Brunch

After we found out that Wyatt was a Wyatt... Kennedy went home with my parents for the weekend. My church's women's ministry hosted a spring brunch where we ate, fellowshipped, and listened to a singer and a speaker. It was great fun, and I was a table hostess.  {Several women are asked to host/decorate a table and each one is unique to the hostess.}

I love decorating and party planning.  {I think I get that from my mom.  I'm not as good at it as her, but I like it!}

Anyways, the above is my table.

I used my own tableware.  The place mats and napkins are from Bed Bath and Beyond, and the runners were just organza that came from Amazon.  The square glass that the flowers were in was a little brighter... but unfortunately in the photos it showed up super neon pink, which it wasn't.

I had the lovely Mellen Designs create this square card from the napkin. Here is the proof so you can see the scripture and quote I chose to tie in my table's theme.

I had to watch a youtube video to learn how to fold the napkins so they would each have a pocket to hold the card.  It was pretty easy.  Email me if you ever need directions!

The pretty flower arrangement I had made by a local florist.

My lovely table!

Me with my table!  I had a great time getting to know other women from the church of all ages!  We are so blessed to have such a wonderful church family.  To top it off, I ended up getting the most votes for best table, so Dave and I landed a gift card to one of our favorite restaurants!

Since K was out of town, we went on a date that night...but not before going to meet this preciousness!

Meet my precious cousin's baby, Zakk!  My heart just melts!  I can't believe Wyatt will only be 5-6 months younger!  Wow!

What's in a name?

As Dave and I were driving after church to meet my parents at the halfway point to pick up Kennedy, we were talking about "the name".  We have had our son's name picked out for some time now, but the way the name came about... truly puts us in awe at how God orchestrates and weaves every detail of our lives together for His perfect plan.  It's like He has been dropping subtle hints to me that I would have a son and this would be his name my whole life without me having a clue what the big picture was.  Kind of like when you buy someone a gift and you hint around at how wonderful whatever you got them would be to have.  You know they would love it, and they don't have a clue the gift they are about to receive and how wonderful it is.  After they receive it.... {or maybe you have been the receiver}... they remember those subtle hints you have been giving for months before you actually gave it to them and can't believe they didn't figure it out sooner!  Have you ever been in a situation like that?  Well, that's how I feel about the gift of my son.  Here's why.

Kennedy was my girl name and Wyatt was my boy name.  I picked them out when I was a young girl.  {However, I didn't have the name Wyatt in the running if Kennedy was a boy for some reason.  I was stuck on more "trendy" names at the time.  FYI you should always go with your first choice.}

When the ultrasound tech asked me what names I had picked out {before we knew we were having a boy}  I told her my girl name and I told her, "Wyatt Henry for a boy."  She automatically said, "I love the name Wyatt."  I knew then... without her even saying it.  I would have a Wyatt!  HA!  She put the words, "It's a Wyatt!" on the ultrasound picture instead of "It's a boy!".

Our sweet little Wyatt Henry!

I picked the name Wyatt and Dave picked the name Henry, and here's how it all came about.

Every year my family goes to the same beach for vacation.  Every year, I would watch this little boy, whose family owned a beachside boating company, play and run and laugh and be mischievous.  Year after year, his sun kissed freckled face and blonde hair would make me smile.  He was always on an adventure, and he always seemed so happy.  The epitome of a joyful little boy looking for trouble.  ;)  His name was Wyatt.  That name, no matter what time of year, or where I was when I heard it, brought me back to my summers growing up with my family and playing at my favorite place on the
earth.. the beach.  It reminds me of warmth and happiness and youth and fun.

Wyatt actually means "brave" so Dave liked it, but to me.... it has such a deeper meaning.  I feel like it's weaved into my sweetest memories of growing up.  I pray my Wyatt's memories of childhood will be filled with the same kind of joy.

So we hadn't nailed down an official boy name yet until our trip to Captiva.  I knew I liked Wyatt, but Dave wanted Henry.  I like the name Henry, but I have a friend with a little boy named Henry and you know how that goes.  Henry is Dave's middle name and Dave's grandfather's first name.  It's a strong, classic family name.  I suggested we use Henry as the middle name and keep Wyatt as the first name.  {I was VERY early on pregnant during our trip fyi.}  We both thought we liked it, but were worried about those names flowing together.  We needed a sign.  Well, we got our sign.

Dave, Kennedy and I were laying on the beach.  Well, Dave and Kennedy were playing actually.  We noticed two little boys fishing.  They were so cute.  After about 10 minutes, both of them caught a fish.  They were squealing and laughing and it was hard not to notice their cuteness.  They were so excited and proud.  Their mom came running towards them and yelled, "WYATT!  HENRY!  Hurry turn around and let me get your picture together!"

Dave and I looked at one another and our mouths dropped open.  We had literally discussed the name "Wyatt Henry" if we were to have a son that morning in the room.  We joked that it was a sign from God, and that if we had a boy, he HAD to be named Wyatt Henry.  The fact that I got the original name, Wyatt, from family vacations at the beach, and I heard that  exact coupling  "Wyatt Henry" at the beach years later as an adult with my family was just kind of wild.

So there you have it!  The story behind his name.  Now, I can't wait to start nesting and getting his room ready.  The more I think about it, the more I like a nautical theme {based on the history of his name, etc.} but I'm not so sure I want it to be themed due to the fact I may get tired of it!  I don't know.... we shall see.  I'll get back to you on the nursery!  =)

As for now... we have a boy and we have his name.

Wyatt Henry

And we think it fits pretty perfectly!

The Big Gender Reveal!

Well, we couldn't wait for our 20 week ultrasound appointment to find out what baby #2 was, so we headed to Lexington Fetal Photography the DAY I hit 16 weeks {since that's the earliest you can find out.}.  We found out at around 18 weeks with Kennedy at the same place, and had such a wonderful experience that we decided to go back.

The Big Sister!

She definitely doesn't fully understand what she means when she says, "I big sissy."  However, when I let her wear this shirt, she is so proud.  It's hilarious.  Big sister shirt = Big pride.  She wasn't too interested in the ultrasound.  She played with toys and was happy to have my mom and dad there.

Our last family photo without knowing "who" would be joining our family!

My dad and mom came down to find out, and then they took Kennedy back home with them for the weekend.

Getting things set up.  I had the nervous butterflies!  Final guesses.  I said girl.  Dave said boy.

This is an ugly picture of me... unflattering and revealing, but I had to share because this was my face the moment I found out.  =)

After the ultrasound with Cindy.  I can't say enough wonderful things about Lexington Fetal Photography.  Cindy is experienced.  It's her business, so she is the ONLY person you deal with which I like.  She is personable.  Her business is run by her and not commercialized and it's just a great way to find out what you are having or get a sneak peak of your baby's face if you are like me and can't wait!  I loved that she is the person who told us what Kennedy was AND she was there for the same experience with baby #2.  It makes it sooo special.  Both times I have gone, my family and I have been the only ones in the whole office.  It's very private, and a very calm, relaxing setting.  She is also great about working with you if the baby is not cooperating!  Go to see Cindy!  I HIGHLY recommend.

So without further ado....

It's a....

BOY!

We are over the moon excited that God has chosen a son to join our family!

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh BOY! =)

Ears, Nose and Throat! OH MY!

We had our appointment with the ENT today.  Kennedy has had several ear and sinus infections over the past year.  They haven't necessarily been severe enough to be considered chronic for tubes... but still yet, we have had our fair share.  We have been teetering on the possibility of ear tubes.

The main reason we were recommended to a specialist, however, was because of a speech concern that I had with Kennedy.  She was slightly delayed to begin talking and now, she talks, but is hard to understand.  She has trouble with pronunciation of certain sounds.  Some of you will say... what two year old doesn't?  However, I have only been concerned because to me, she is noticeably difficult to understand, for that reason... I want to do everything I can before she starts any kind of school to help her communicate better.  I don't want her to have issues later on.  Some people tell me... she's fine and she'll grow out of it, but how do I know?  And if I can do something to help her now, then why not?  Might as well fix what we can now vs. waiting until she gets older and things get harder, right?  So that's where I was when we went back for our two year appointment, despite the fact that I have seen much improvement in the last month.

My doctor immediately recommended us to an ENT first before we started speech just to make sure her ear infections had not caused any kind of hearing issues.  I was nervous about having the hearing test, simply for the fact that Kennedy hates doctors.  I was worried she would throw a tantrum and they wouldn't be able to get accurate results.  Kennedy did fabulous during the hearing test.

The hearing test came back fine, but there was pressure in her right ear, however, it wasn't enough to be too concerned with.  She has a lymph node behind this ear that stays enlarged due to these past infections.  We went through the exam with Kennedy screaming.  In all fairness, he did go further into her hears, nose and throat than a "typical exam".  Kind of made me cringe when he removed some wax in her left ear.  I mean... when I get poked too far back in my ear with a q-tip it hurts.  UGH!  I had to hold her and it took two nurses to help me.  She was seriously hyperventilating.  It was terrible.  I know this was just a minor exam, but it still stunk to watch her terrified and uncomfortable.  All I could think about was the very sick children that are constantly poked and prodded on a daily basis!  We are so blessed.

So I went in for answers about her ears and came out with answers, just now what I thought.  Turns out, for now... the ears are not a concern.  Based on her past history of infection and the fact she has some pressure in her right ear {even in a healthy state}.... the doctor said that if she gets any more infections then we would go ahead and do the tubes.  Since children are so likely to outgrow these chronic ear infections and K's are currently clear... he said we should wait it out and hopefully she can stay healthy through the summer and I would see great improvement in her speech.  He does think the fact that her speech has some issues is because she has had so many ear infections and sinus infections this past year and she probably has had hearing issues during those times.  Since she has been well {almost 3 months now} with no ear or sinus issues, I truly have seen so much improvement.  The ENT said that most children will either get tubes or they will start to stay healthy and outgrow the ear issues and then the light bulb will come on and their speech will start improving.

So we are waiting and hoping to stay healthy and outgrow these issues on our own.  If not, then we are looking at tubes this summer maybe or when and if ever she may get another infection.

The thing that the ENT was actually most concerned about today was her tonsils and her adenoids.  Mainly her tonsils.  He said they were so enlarged that they almost touched.  He asked me if she slept well.  If you have read this blog, you know that I have struggled with sleep issues since K has been born.  She is so restless, she wakes up several times a night needing water due to dehydration, she cries out all through the night, she has night terrors, she snores, she can't find a comfortable position, she keeps dark circles under her weak eyes, she sweats profusely, & she pees through her diaper almost every night, etc. etc. etc.  All of which happen to be sleep apnea symptoms and she has the enlarged tonsils and adenoids to prove the possibility.

Anyways, she is too small to remove her tonsils.  He doesn't recommend it until she's three.  As for the adenoids, he can go ahead and do it, but he wants to wait five months and reevaluate.  Hopefully, this is something that growing will improve over time.  So unless we end up with ear infections that lands us back in his office for tubes, then we go back in the early fall {probably right around the time the baby is about to come out}, and we talk about the possibility of surgery.

So we are in the waiting game....

I'm glad we got some answers!  FINALLY!  Just different answers than I had expected.  I am still going to have her speech evaluated and start working on that.  She has improved so much here lately, so if I can keep her healthy and learn what I need to do to help her improve from a therapist, then hopefully we will see a big change.  I'm not worried about her intellectually.  The doctor kept saying these issues weren't due to anything mentally, so even though I knew that... it felt good to hear it from a doctor... saying it's obvious she is very bright.  She still may have some speech issues separate from her ENT issues, however, the ear, nose and throat issues aren't helping her any.  If they aren't the main cause, then they are a major contributing factor.  I am kind of amazed at how our ears, nose and throat all are connected... one problem seems to lead to another.  HA!

So that's where we are now.

If you have a child with similar issues or that has had their tonsils/adenoids removed at a young age, then please feel free to share your stories.  I know things could always be worse, but I worry over Kennedy's funny smelling poo, so the fact we may have to consider surgery in these next months... {even though not considered life threatening} still worries me.  HA!  I don't want her to have to even have a hangnail if at all possible.  ;)  {Although I'm not too concerned with the tube surgery for the ears... I would still rather her outgrow it vs. have to have it...especially since she would have to deal with ANOTHER ear infection in order to qualify for the surgery.  I'm more concerned about the tonsil/adenoid/sleep apnea issues for now.}

So here she is now...

Resting from her big day.  We would have much rather been in art class!  =)

The Kentucky Derby and Mother's Day Weekend.

I'm sorry but this post is kind of long, but I have a lot to tell you!

Dave and I went to the Kentucky Derby on Saturday through his work.  We had to take a potential client, so we were in the suite area, as well as the company's private suite too.  It was hard work getting all dressed up!  HA!

Dave and I before we left.  {notice a little someone peaking out from behind! HA!}

and fyi... just because some of you have asked.
dress:  Lilly Pulitzer "Jillie" dress in sea blue.
shoes {not really seen in photo above} & handbag: Ann Taylor "Pefect Exotic Pump" & matching lizard print clutch.
hat & pashmina:  no clue... picked it up at Macys but I found the SAME hat for almost half the price at SteinMart later on!  If I ever go back to Derby, I'll look at SteinMart for hats first!

This picture of my aunt and I is soooo blurry, and my sim card was old and was not saving any of the pictures I was taking.  It would randomly save some and others would show up in preview after I would take them but disappear right after.  Anyways, my aunt and I would try to cruise the halls and peak in the suites with security guards at the doors.  We KNEW someone important MUST be in those rooms!  Unfortunately we were never invited in to see for ourselves.

The Vineyard Vines pink tractors!  Cute!

The best part about going to the Derby...singing My Old Kentucky Home!

My feet hurt so bad it was ridiculous.  I'm not used to walking in high heels, so I pulled a true Kentuckian move... I took my shoes off and stood in a chair to watch the race.

And they're off!

There is something so exhilarating about watching a horse race!  I thought for sure #19 would win.  Why I didn't predict "Animal Kingdom" as the winner I'll never know!  I usually pick a horse based on the name and colors, so the fact that we recently went to Animal Kingdom at Disney World should have been a given, but instead I tried to look at the expert numbers and odds to decide who I thought would win.  I'm always sticking with the name from now on!  HA!
I was determined to get my photo made with a celebrity.  It was my main goal.  HA!  I saw Terry Bradshaw, tons of old people I'm assuming are famous due to their "police escorts", Paul Mitchell and Martha Stewart.

Let me just tell ya.... Martha is so snooty it's funny!  First of all, she was waiting on an elevator with us when I realized it was her.  I got a little star struck and boldly asked "Oh Martha, I'm such a fan.  May I have a photo with you?"

I kid you not.... the woman with the greasy waxed stink eye face snarled at me and didn't speak.  She turned her back to me.

Then I think she realized others were watching so she turned around & summoned me towards her... STILL NOT SPEAKING.  Dave and I were DYING laughing at this point.  He snapped the picture and I walked away thinking... "She is a total you know what!"

I looked at the picture and it just disappeared!  I was mad at first, and then I laughed when a fellow blogger & twitter friend, Grits, made the comment on twitter something along the lines of "Her devil soul sucked it out of the camera".  I swear I have never laughed so hard in all my life!  Martha was truly the coldest, snottiest, rudest, person I have ever met.

Let's give her the benefit of the doubt though.... maybe she had had a recent botox and her face was stuck that way.  OR maybe her panties were stuffed up in her rump and all she could think about was the polite and proper way to remove them.  Everyone deserves the chance for a good excuse to be hateful, right?  Mine is pregnancy after all. =)

Anyways, I was happy to get the photo above with Paul Mitchell {famous hairdresser and co-founder of the hair care product company} and his family.  They watched the Derby in the suite directly next to us, and were the kindest people.  They had a camera crew filming them, but even when the cameras weren't rolling, they were just the nicest people.  Truly made me want to go out and buy all of his products!  His wife told me I had beautiful hair and I know she probably tells everyone that, but she truly made my day.  Such sweet people.

Oh I forgot to mention that when we first arrived, Dave pulled into the WRONG entrance thinking we were in line for the valet parking we had paid for.  God love his heart for giving us the courtesy of "pretending" to think so but a traffic director asked us, " ummmm.... sir.... are you all red carpet?"  Obviously after we looked in front of us and saw a stretch limo with police escorts and behind us and saw Vickie from Real Housewives being filmed in her vehicle for her reality show WITH security as well... we realized our little Highlander would not be bumpin' it in the red carpet lane!  HA!  I laughed and laughed.

The end of our night.  The weather ended up being pretty perfect.  We went to dinner after and then dropped our "potential clients" off and came home to Grammy and my sweet baby!

Did I mention that I have the best mom and daughter in the world!?

I got up this morning, Mother's Day, and was planning on going to teach Sunday School for my 2 year old class.  My mom and I noticed K had a rash on her face and chest.  She had been running an on and off again low grade temp that was making her chill, so I decided to stay home, and Dave went to fill in for me at church.

So... my mom gives K a bath to try to wash her body in case the rash is something contact.  While in the bathtub... my baby, who hadn't gone #2 in two days, releases the God awful poo.  We are talking man sized!  My mom made the mistake of lifting her out of the bath tub to try to put her on her potty and let's just say...... there was flying poo EVERYWHERE.  It was so gross.  Mom and I were both gagging.  She decided to put her big girl panties on to deal with it since her preggo daughter was incapable of brushing her teeth without gagging and vomiting let alone cleaning enormous amounts of stank poo.  My mom gets BEST mother award for sure.

Some elbow grease, gags and a bottle of clorox later.... she came out with a clean bathroom.  God love her heart!  What in the world would I do without her?

My beautiful Mother's Day flowers!

And my new watch that K picked out for me all by herself.  The girl has good taste!

And my true Mother's Day Gift!  I can't believe this is my THIRD Mother's Day!

and then there's my treat that Dave and K have made for me for dessert tonight!

I am still in my pjs and it feels fabulous.  The Derby absolutely DRAINED me.

I am so blessed to have my daughter who made me a mom and gave me reason to celebrate. I love this role that God has blessed me in.  I love my husband more than life!  Without him I wouldn't be a mom at all, let alone.... an even decent one.  He is such a great help to me.  He is truly my life partner and parenting with him is so much fun.

And then lastly, there's my mom.  I owe her my everything.  I can't go on enough about what she means to me and how grateful I am.  Being a mom has made me appreciate her so much more, and I truly feel closer to my mom than I have my entire life because now we celebrate motherhood and it's blessings together... even if that means cleaning poop. =)

I have had a heavy heart all day for my friends who long for a baby, as well as my friends who have lost their mothers and are missing them so much.  I know one thing is for sure.... motherhood is a gift.  I am reminded of that constantly.  I am so thankful to God for the blessing of a mother's love... for being loved by a mother and having my heart grow to love like one too.

I sat in bed as K slept today and wept. {hormones!}  Dave came home from church and immediately asked me, "WHAT'S WRONG?"

This is what I told him.

"My mom just left and I miss her. {cry}  Being Kennedy's mom is the greatest gift God has ever given me."  Then I patted my protruding stomach and cried some more, "I can't even begin to fathom why God gave me this blessing times TWO!?"

We find out who this person inside me is on Friday!  I can't wait.

Happy Mother's Day to all the mommies out there!  May your day be as blessed as mine.
